Hi Houston, :)
What info do you have to suggest Joseph was actually born in Eastling?

It might pay you to ask someone to check out the PR,s for near by villages .
CHILHAM  has  a Thomas and Susannah Gilham there having children Christened in your time frame.
CHARING another nearby village  has John and Ann Gilham who are also christening children in the same time frame.
I note the family were working at Little Winfield Farm,Stalisfield on the 41 census.
As the family were of Ag Lab stock they would likely have moved arround locally for work.
Good Luck with your Quest . Roger :D ;D

Hi Grandarog
Thank you for your response. The source was from a direct line through Charles Gillham b. 1812 Stallisfield  son of Joseph. There is a Family group record of Joseph Gillham and Francis Cleverly stating birth, death, Buried and Marriage dates including children but just havent been able to find Joseph's parents.  Yes I believe Ag Labourers did move around.
I have noticed that Thomas you mention but is not one of the children though could be an Uncle or cousin - will keep it on hand.
Parish Records  request may be next move.
Thanks

Hi Houston,
As an after thought ,there are 6 people on Genes Reunited laying claim to your Joseph Gilham in their family trees .
Only one of them claiming Charles Gilham 1812 with one L and two with Charles Gillham 1812 with two L,s .
You might like to contact them see if they one of them can help.
                                                                                      Roger
Ps: all spell Joseph Gilham with only one L.

Thank you Roger
Hmmm maybe some relatives then
Not a member of Genes Re United but may pay to become one
Yes I have noticed that names get changed as they go along perhaps due to the transcribers trying to decipher old records and phonetic spelling - pays to be open minded I think
Thanks again Roger
Best Wishes

Also if you go into the new pilot record search from the IGI and put Eastling in the location box you will see there is no Joseph Gilham born there.

Hi lisingreece
The plot thickens. My printout of the Family Group Record from LDs says Born Abt 1769 Eastling Kent so maybe the difference is definitely that my Gillham has the 2 'L's and not one.
I will look at your site suggestion
thanks for that

Hi Houston

I would suggest that the "born about" signifies that they don't really know unlike other dates which are actually given.  It might be helpful to know who the witnesses to his marriage were, likewise if there is any residence etc. given on his marriage.

As you may have discovered, there is a secluded Gilham's Cottage near Wingfield Farm, which lies partly in Eastling and partly in Stalisfield.   More generally, could I suggest you have a look at the Faversham website www.faversham.org. and see what is on offer.
