I have a sampler made by Susannah Spain on December 1 1853; think she married into the Fordred family.

That's what I thought. I am just wondering how my side of the Fordred family connects up with the one Susanna married into.

I descend from Maria Fordred, born 1813, first married to George Finn and then to Thomas Hills.  Her parents were William Fordred and Susanna Baker.

From a tree link to the 1841 HO107/478/12/4/1  it looks as if his parents were Thomas (50-54)  and Eliza (45-49)

I will have a look at my Fordreds. It is a lovely sampler and has clearly been looked after.

Susannah Spain and the 1853 sampler

I have solved the sampler mystery.
Susannah Spain was born in Lyminge in late 1840 and, in 1859, married George Finn.
Her parents were Thomas Spain and Charlotte Philpott.
George Finn was the son of George Finn and Maria Fordred - his half sister, Harriet Hills (by Maria's second marriage) was my gggrandma.
Susannah died in 1867.
