George Jones lived in Butcher Row, Rhosllanerchrugog in 1901
« on: Sunday 19 September 10 14:50 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I wonder whether anybody can help me.  my father has been tracing his family tree.  He has got to his grandfather on his father's side, George Jones, a coal miner who was born c1867. He was definitely living at 46 Butcher Row, Rhosllanerchrugog according to the 1901 census.  his wife was Mary Jones, formally Thomas (her father was David Thomas, widowed, living with them b circa 1841)
We are now stuck in trying to find out any more about George Jones including when and where he was born. We thought he was born in Rhos but may have been born near Oswestry, Shropshire in a place called Sweeney Mountain.
can anyone help?
sian

I have had some kind help and now know that George Jones married Mary Elizabeth Thomas in 1895.  This would probably have taken place in either Shropshire or Denbighshire.  If we got a copy of the marriage certificate I would imagine that it may give us a lead as to where they lived prior to 1901 because there is no sign of them in Butcher Row in 1891.
Any idea how I do this?
Thanks
Sian

Hi Sian  :)

It's easy to do  - I think you accidentally clicked on the little lock/unlock icon beneath this posting. A very kind Mod unlocked it.

It appears that George was born Rhos from the census info.  I'll see if I can find more out but, as you are aware, looking for a Jones in Rhos is not easy  :-X

I'll report back if I find anything.

The marriage cert will give his father's name so that will help.

This might be the family in 1871 as I see that they had a daughter called Ann and his age does fluctuate ~

Hall Street, Moreton Above, Rhos
RG10/5653/128/38

Jones
Ann, 39, widow, charwoman
Margaret, 16
George, 6
Daniel, 3
Mary, 1

All b. Rhos

(I say 'might' because I've not followed them through/back)

Hi Paul  :)

(Don't ask what the time is - got a lurgy and can't breev  :'(  )

Just checked and the marriage was a civil one in Wrexham, so not good for your searches.

If you are kind enough, it might be worth searching in Rhos for a George , 1865 ish; Daniel, 1868 ish;  and a Mary, 1870 ish - Mother - Ann (e)
