MACKILLOP / MCKILLOP / MCKILLIP family connections
« on: Sunday 19 September 10 02:59 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

At the moment a particular branch of the family is of interest to me - ie the McKillops.

My Gtx4 Grandfather was a Duncan McKillop born (it is alleged by distant relation on another forum) in Co. Antrim in 1791.  He married Jean Moffat (b. 1795) in Eastwood, Renfrewshire in 1813 and they had eight children (all born in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland):

Patrick Peter    16/01/1816 - 15/07/1875
Ann                 10/04/1819 - ?
Mary                01/10/1823 - 14/02/1907
Jane                1824 - 04/02/1873
AGNES             1829 - 05/08/1901  (my Gt x 3 Grandmother)
Duncan            1831 - 17/12/1899
John                1834 - ?
Daniel              1843 - 06/01/1918

My Gtx3 Granny Agnes married James MacKrell (b. 1825 Ireland) in St. Margaret's RC Church, Airdrie on 13 Feb 1860.

I am particularly interested in the Ulster-Scots connection.  I told my uncle that I didn't believe McKillop to be a native Irish name and most likely came originally from Scotland.  I read on one of the other forums that it originates from Arran Island in Scotland.

Any information you may have would be brilliant

Thanks in advance - Jennifer

I have an Agnes Moffat born July25, 1807 New Monkland, Lanarkshire County, Scotland  (parents:  Alexander Moffat and Marie Lang) who married Daniel  McKillip. Agnes died in 1849 in Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland, USA.
Daniel McKillip was born in 1806. He died Nov. 28, 1841 (Coal Mine explosion)  at Pit 6, Whflet, Airdries, Scotland.  Possible parents:  James McKillip and Catherine Crookstone  or a  Daniel McKillip.

This Agnes came to the USA after her husband Daniel died.

They had 10 Children all born in Scotland   Does any of this tie in with your family of Moffats and McKillps?

Did Donald McNeilage die before 1860? If not then it is highly unlikley that this is the same Agnes who married married James MacKrell in St. Margaret's RC Church, Airdrie on 13 Feb 1860.

Donald McNeilage and Agnes McKillop had the following family

John Robertson Mcneilage   birth:   28 Nov 1845
Hugh Mcneilage      birth:   03 Oct 1852
Mary Mc Neilage      birth:   06 Sep 1855
Colin Mc Neilage   birth:   18 Jan 1858
Sarah Jane Mc Neilage   birth:   25 Jan 1860
Catherine Mc Neilage   birth:   17 Dec 1862

Agnes McKillop nee McNeilage died in Lanarkshire in 1885 aged 57. It is not the same Agnes.
