Ballynure - Birth - SCOTT - 1822
« on: Saturday 18 September 10 00:02 BST (UK) »
Hi there to you all,

My name is Bill Scott and this is my first post/request to you and I hope someone will be able to help me as I have been stuck with my paternal line for many years now.  I have a birth of what I believe to be my great great grandfather Charles Scott born or baptised 6th October 1822 in the Parish of Ballynure, Co. Antrim but I need to know what information is in the record.  I have conflicting inf. from two sources - the I.G.I. and the Ulster Historical Foundation and so I hope if anyone has access to this record they will help me move forward at last with my line.  Thanks for reading this and all the best.

Bill Scott

Welcome to Rootschat. Since 1822 is well before the start of birth registration in Ireland the source is possible a church or family record.

The I.G. record (www.familysearch.org) is a submitted record not extracted so it's difficult to know if it is accurate- unfortunately no details of source/submitter given.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks, yes the information I got from the Ulster Historical Foundation was that he was Church of Ireland and the address was "Legaloy" and his mother's surname was Crothers/Cruthers although in the I.G.I. it says mother's name "Catherine" so if the record does say mother's name Catherine then it is not my man.

Hi

Does the UHF record give the same date of Baptism as the I.G.I. or does it just give a date of Birth?

Hi John,

Yes the IGI gives the same date for Christening/Baptism - 2nd Oct. 1822,
all the best.

Hi Bill

Your best bet would be to write to the rector at Chirst Church in Ballynure to see if he would be able to look up the records. I am not sure if they have the original registers or PRONI?

(*)

Or you can see if anyone on this site might be going to PRONI@Cregagh and would be able to look up ref MIC1/332

Hi there,

It's been a while since I first posted asking for help with Charles Scott but although I have not had much luck with his birth info. yet,  I have since found out that he had another sister that I knew nothing of, her name was Agnes Scott born abt. 1818 and she married a James Davidson in Ballynure on 24th December 1835 (this info was from the I.G.I.).  I have her and husband on the 1851 census and 1861 census in Glasgow with their family and when she died in Glasgow in 1869 her son William states her parents as Charles Scott (Farmer) deceased and Hannah Scott (maiden name Carruthers) deceased.  If any of this looks familiar or you can add anything then please do, all the best.
