Edward Hobson 1903
« on: Friday 17 September 10 19:11 BST (UK) »
Hi,
wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction, this is the first birth that I've needed to find in Scotland.
I am looking for Edward Hobson b. C. 1903 in Edinburgh.  :)
He later moves to England and m. Sarah Noon in 1936 Nuneaton.

However, 1903, could also be 26 Dec 1904, because there is a d. register for an Edward Hobson in Nuneaton in 1977 with a birth date of this 1904.

Ideally would also love to find out the parents of Edward   :)   because that will then get me into the time of censuses, so hopefully find out more.

Many thanks for any assistance.

There is an Edward Hobson (illegitimate) born on 26th December 1904 in Edinburgh at (what looks like) 3 Horn Pitt, 1 Albion Terrace, Edinburgh

Father is John Hobson, Mercantile Clerk and mother is Elizabeth Vearey, Domestic Servant.

Ruth, thanks a million!

That's fab as ties with the d. cert that I said about. Oh dear as illigitimate, think it going to be tricky to follow back with John Hobson and Elizabeth Vearney....but I'll have a go.

Thanks once again - you've made my day.

This is definately the Edward that I was looking for.
Is there any sites that I can find out about John Hobson - I think he was born in 1878 in Scotland - I assume the Edinburgh area?

Also if I can find out about Elizabeth Vearey (or come across another varient of spelling Veasy)

And then if John and Elizabeth ever married or had other issue?

Edward was as far back as I'd ever got, so getting one more generation is fab, ideally I am trying to get 2 more generations

I do apologise, but still having trouble with John Hobson.
I've found 2 census - both for different John Hobson's, but both are in the coal trade, and by 1936 when Edward is in Nuneaton England alot of the families inc his wifes close/near family are also in coal trade - so wondering if this could be a link and he they moved due to work?

The two census that I've identified as possibilities are:

1891 Muiravonside, Stirlingshire, living in Drumbowie Village,
John Hobson b. 1876 Airdrie, Lodger with William Duncan age 35, Wife Ellen age 32 and 5 issue.
John's occ Coal Miner
Roll CSSCT1891_152     ED 4 Line 12 House Sched 11

1901 Census Denny parish, Stirlingshire
John Hobson b. 1875 Bowhill, Lanark
Address Parkfoo, Haggs, Stirlingshire
Lodging with John McEwan age 60 & wife Matilda 59
John's Occ, Coal Miner Hewer.
Roll - CSSCT1901_154   Line 14 House Sched 94

Am I missing searchin for something that could prove either of these census results to be my John? At the moment I don't think there is anyway of proving either of these 2 census

Kindest regards

Hi,
Just found your request through Google. Edward Hobson (Scottie) was the illegitemate child of Elizabeth Veasey, who was my great Aunt, and my Granddad's sister. Edward had a sister, Elizabeth who was being brought up by my great grandmother Maria Veasey in Nuneaton as sadly the first Elizabeth died in childbirth. The the baby died but my Dad often mentioned Scottie?Eddy Veasey but we were never very sure of his parentage till recently when I followed up the Scottish connection. My brother has only today met two grandson of Scottie at Nuneaton Borough football match - I'm waiting for more details. Hope to hear from you soon.
