Hello Tyros

Do you know any more precisely when Clara died in 1949?  Do you live near Macclesfield at all?

I think your best bet is to contact the library in Macclesfield - in person, by email - and see if there is a reference to her death, funeral in the local paper.  You will though need to be a little more certain of the actual date so that too many copies of the paper do not have to be examined.  It is possible to obtain the death certificate which will certainly give a precise date of death and will provide other useful information.

If you want any advice on getting the certificate let us know.

Incidentally the Index to Deaths shows her surname as Swindells not Swindell.  You mentioned 39 in your post.  This was her age when she died.

Regards
Reiver

Hello.
the Person in Question was 39 according to her Death Cert this I downloaded from www.cheshirebmd.org, it does not give the date of death only what i know, the surname was Clara Winifred "Swindells" the surname is correct as I know from supporting her son,  I do not live near Macclesfield but Clitheroe Lancashire Nr Blackburn, I am familier with Macclesfield as my previous job was a HGV Driver so I used to del to the Hurstfield Ind Est + a paper comp in Bollington, Going off her Death Cert the details given are, Death Cert/ Cheshire East: MBO/ 1/ 68  I do not know if this meas the 1st Jan 1968. I was in hope of someone that knew Clara & where she was buried, her son is now into his 70s & I would love to find his Mums grave if only to escourt Thomas to place some flowers on her grave, but thank you for your help I will keep searching hoping there is someone out there that has the information I need.

                                           Thank You again.

                                                       Tyros.

From the GRO index the death was registered in the second quarter 1949 - ie registered April-June. Deaths were usually registered quickly but it is possible (eg if there had to be an inquest) for there to be a delay. GRO reference is Macclesfield 10a 307 in the name Clara W Swindells.

This sounds "picky" but when you say
I have tried the Macclesfield & bollington Crematorium office with no results I have also emailed the Cheshire East Borough Council.
do you mean you have had a negative response or no response at all? My gut feeling is that if she was a long term patient & there wasn't family to make arrangements she would have been buried or cremated by the local authority, but whether that would mean Macclesfield council or that of where she was from (as they were in 1949) I wouldn't know. Her birth was in the Alderley sub-district - as such the nearest council cemetery open then was probably Wilmslow, which now comes under Cheshire East as does Macclesfield. Their contact details are the same:
http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/community_and_living/bereavement_services/cemeteries/wilmslow.aspx

Macclesfield Crematorium opened in 1960, so cremation seems less likely.

I hope someone is able to help further.

Hello All, this is my first posting onto this site, which I've only just found. We know that my wife's grandma died in Parkside Hospital, Macclesfield in 1983. My wife's late mother had been told that her mother died when she was young and, consequently, my wife never knew she had had a living grandmother until long after her death. We are desperately trying to find out where she was buried or cremated and whether any hospital photographs may possibly still exist. Her name was Rosetta Leaman (nee Tudor), born in Wrexham in 1899 and had been living in Marple Bridge/Compstall. We are aware that hospital records cannot be released for 100 years and would be extremely grateful for any help anybody could give us. Thank you in anticipation. Nigel and Heather

Hi Nigel / Heather,
It had taken me 5 months to find the parents of Tommy, we went to visit his parents grave & fore filled my aim, regards your plight, there is no Cemetry at Parkside, the only indication that is was a hospital was the main entrance, it now is a new housing estate, from the Hospital is the main Cemetary, there is an office at the entrance that may help you with their records, I have not got the Tel No, if you Google the Ce.metary their no should come up, If I find the Number I will come back on here and send it to you, If you scroll down this page you will see some Links that may help you, I wish you all the very best, but do not give up ( I did not) the info is out there some where.

                                                          Regards Trebor

PS / Tommys parents grave was at Bolden, Nr Altringham.
