Edwin and Sarah Wilkinson burials in Cumbria?

Hi,

This is a long shot. I am trying to find out what happened to Edwin and Sarah Wilkinson. They last show on the 1881 census living in Whassett, Milnthorpe aged 68 and 69. After this they disappear. I can not find a death registration for the couple. And, there are no guarantees that they died in Cumbria as they moved around rather a lot - they were a bit of a nightmare really.

And, as if this is not bad enough there is a possibility that one or both could be recorded under the surname of Wildgoose as Edwin was baptised as a Wildgoose and married as a wildgoose but they are recorded on all the census returns as Wilkinson as this was Edwin's father/stepfathers name.

Any help or ideas will be most welcome.

There is an Edwin Wilkinson listed as dying Q1 1882 in Barnsley aged 69 on freebmd. Unfortunately no suitable Sarah died there and thereare lots and lots of Sarah Wilkinsons listed in the rest of the country soon after 1881.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for trying to help. I had found the same information as you. And, had there been a Sarah Wilkinson registered in Barnsley about the same time I would have sent for the death certificates. I am still considering sending for the Barnsley one - it is a possibility as one of Edwin and Sarah's children were living in Rotherham at the time of this registration - but where was Sarah?

Cert might still be useful as you get info such as "widower of" and who registered the death.

Sandra, I think your Edwin Wildgoose/Wilkinson may have died in Rotherham in 1863. His son James Edwin Wilkinson died there in 1906 and there are a couple of possibilities that Sarah died there also. How much do you know about this family? Edwin was born in 1812 in Cromford, Derbyshire to Dorothy Wildgoose who married Joseph Wilkinson in Wirksworth in 1814. Edwin may or may not have been Joseph Wilkinson's son but in later life he certainly took his surname.
