Looking for James Hughes and wife, Julia Redmond, birth dates 1815-1820

James and Julia were supposedly married in Ireland...came either to America or Canada..son Thomas J. Hughes, born November 1842, either in Ireland or in Canada.  Family reported to have immigrated in 1849..one source says 1863..Thomas found in 1880 US census living in Michigan, married to girl from Michigan...can find nothing prior to that...any ideas?
