Anyone heard of Glower?

Glower, Bucks is given as the birthplace of my James Clark of Windsor Street, Shoreditch in the 1861 census. His birth would have been about 1814. I can't find a Glower past or present. Does anyone know this place? Has anyone come across other birth places listed as this? It looks very much like Glower when compared to the other place names in the same handwriting but of course it could be slightly diferent, but I haven't had any luck with variants either.

Could it be Lower Buckinghamshire?

Other than that I do  not have any idea!. It could have been a very small hamlet

Thanks for the link Welsh Jen. I have been through similar town lists but had not seen that one. I did think of Lower Bucks, but comparing the writing it really looks to be GLowER (the only possibly questionable letters being the 'ow').

Looks like it was written wrongly and should have been Clewer, Bucks (now in Berkshire).

I was going to suggest Clewer. However, it has ALWAYS been in Berkshire.

Could it be Glover or Gower? I am not familiar with the area just thinking of variations that this could be.

The Buckinghamshire library people suggested Clewer. When I searched for Clewer, Bucks some other entries are found. In this instance we are talking about 1814. Was Clewer always clearly Berks or is there a possibility that some people would have considered it Bucks?

Clewer is a parish south of the river Thames, between Windsor and Maidenhead.  Buckinghamshire has never extended south of the Thames.  With the county boundary re-organisation of 1974, Berkshire gained some parishes that were previously in Buckinghamshire (Eton, Datchet, Slough, Upton, Wraysbury, Horton) and are on the north side of the Thames.

It is certainly written Bucks. But if the Glower (it certainly reads GLowER - with only the 'ow' uncertain but not too uncertain) was mistakenly written and if it should have been Clewer (as there seems no other close possibility) then one could easily imagine Berks becoming Bucks.
