Assuming that Edith Clifton was the mother then there was a rapid surname change as Rodney W Myers is the birth registered Sept quarter 1932, Finsbury, vol 1b, page 821. His death at Reading age 72 was also recorded as Rodney W Myers.

So, if your partner is Myers the whole Edith Clifton matter may be a red herring. How did this name come into it?

You definitely need Rodney's birth certificate.

Rodney William Myers, on his birth reg it is given as mmn. Clifton therefore i think zephycat looked for a marriage betwixt Myers and Clifton and found MEyers and Clifton marriage but there was another birth later as i said of a June Myers mmn. Clifton

Morning all :)

Thank you for checking these for me, it's a huge help!

That is definately the correct Rodney, with the birth and then the death in Reading. I have just asked MArtin again if he is certain her name is Edith Clifton and he says that is the name his Mum has given him. I then asked him if his Dad had a sister named June to which he replied "Yes! That's it!! not Pat"  (You see now why I'm finding this so hard to get going!!)  ;D

Because there doesn’t seem to be a marriage between Edith Clifton and Mr. Myers only the Nathaniel MEYERS one I would be tempted to think this is yours but would have to purchase one of the birth certificates, either Rodneys or Junes to get the parents names from there before progressing.

Was it her first marriage- or could she have been married befroe?
Maybe they didn't actually marry- it was more common than you think back then  ;)

There's a marriage of an Edith M Jones to an Arthur H Myers in Islington in Sept 1929.

Will see if I can find a Clifton to a Jones earlier than that.

Added- none found,so that is probably a red herring

I agree that the birth cert of Rodney in 1932 is required to find the right parents ;)

Agreed, will need to order and see what that brings up! Martin's Mum showed up as 'Nee Brand, Late Neame' on his birth certificate, which he had never known about,  so that certainly proves your point Carol! Is it possible to purchase the certificate to view online or does it have to be through the post?

Many thanks :)

No you have to have it sent through the post- in England and Wales the rules are that it has to be a certified copy( ie stamped with a register office stamp)

Use http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ it should cost no mroe than £9-25,and they will post anywhere for that including OZ and USA.
