Thomas (Theophilus) Upright aka Henri De Melvin
« on: Wednesday 15 September 10 08:16 BST (UK) »
I have found in the General Quarter Sessions 12 July 1886 in Clerkenwell an entry stating that a Thomas Upright was imprisioned for 12 months for the crime of 'incorrigible rogue'.  Am wondering if this could be my Thomas???  He did squander all my ggggrandmother's money between 1876-1877. How would I go about finding out more information about his trial?

Any suggestions welcomed!

I thought I recognised the name!  We had great fun with him on Lancs board in early August.  Do you think it would be a good idea to post the links so no one else goes over old ground?   (I know this is a specific enquiry about the Clerkenwell aspect, but people do try to be so helpful on here  ;D)

I knew you'd ask me that!  :D

I think you go to the first thread, copy the address from the bar at the top and paste it into your reply, then go to the second thread and do the same for that one, then post your reply..........I think.

National Archives say there is too much info to go through and it would be best for me to either visit in person or pay a researcher to go in and copy the relevant documents :(

Hello, I am an melvin- Upright born...My Father was James Frederick Melvin-Upright ..His Father was Edmund Bidgood Melvin-Upright..My brother is Melvin John Francis Melvin -Upright.....bit of a theme going here...Your Thomas Theophilus is one of mine...can not remember who or how ,too much paperwork...LOL.....There were two sides to the family that were on the stage....The Granville-Uprights and the Melvin-Uprights....bit of bad blood I understand between brothers or cousins or something. We Melvin looked down on the Granvilles and they upon us...Would like to keep in touch with anyone who is an Upright, because we are all related to the ones that came from Devon......
