Hi,
I've been researching the Julers for a while, as my 2xggf was adopted into the Juler family.
I've written a lot of what I've discovered into WikiTree here.
This is the bio of William Fox Juler, chemist and druggist of Norwich https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Juler-31

- his forbears go back to John Juler, famous watch and clockmaker of North Walsham, Norfolk,
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Juler-9
and his ancestors, who, the story goes, were French Huguenot jewellers who fled persecution in about 1680, in the reign of Louis XIV. That would certainly fit the name; 'le joaillier' being French for 'jeweler'.

I don't know if any of these bios are relevant to you, but you might find a few details which would be useful.
I haven't yet managed to get any further than Matthew Juler, John's father. That said, I haven't visited Matthew for about three years (too many other rabbit holes) and by now I might know enough to be able to do better research.

Feel free to contact me, if you'd like to.

Jewish history in Norwich I saw on a TV programme goes back to medieval times.
The Norfolk Record Office may be able to help you.

Thank you!  :)

The idea that the Julers are of Jewish descent is very attractive, but unless someone with DNA data comes forward, probably not provable.

I wonder if they might have had a local origin. There are these Julers or Julier in or not far from North Walsham. Gimmingham and Crostwight are a few miles away and Foulsham is 15 miles.

There were Julers all across Norfolk. Spellings vary, of course.

These are just a few. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Juler-28

I haven't had time to create new profiles as I've been focusing on other branches of my family - you know how it is.

They also spread to Cambridgeshire, where they were iron founders.
