Have you tried this:-

http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=1174

U.S. Passport Applications. It says it included those issued abroad.

Or give us a name and someone might look for you  ;)

There's a WWI Draft registration card for a James GARNET born Aug.1886 Penobscot (county?), Maine.
Do you know where your father was living in 1920 and 1930?

There's a James Garnet in 1920 Census living in N.Y. with his wife Phillis. The actual census entry may give more clues.

I have all that info on him from when he arrived in London England 2/16/1917  and resided at 23 canonbury rd.Islington as a lodger before he met phyllis Turner his wife. it is from Jan 1917  back to 1886 that is void of info. I do know that he worked as a motor ingineer for Gaston Williams & Wigmore Ltd of Montreal Canada . He registered for the draft in Maine but there is no proof he actusly lived there. Thanks for all your info glad that I signed on to RootsChat.

We really do need to know all the information you've already found so that we can help you find more details about the 'missing' years (1886-1917).
What is his address on the draft registration card?

The 1920 & 1930 Census, the California Death Index, and the WWI & WWII Draft Registration Card all say he was born in Maine, and both draft registration cards say it was Bangor, Maine.  Also, in a database about members of the military from Maine, it says he was born in and resided in Bangor.  So, seems likely he lived in Maine at some point.

The WWI draft registration card lists an Islington address and an employer in London.
