thanks again for your input. as per may last reply#6 you state the need for additional info. well, there isn't much before 1917 but will give you what i picked up as a youth from 1930 to 1966. my dad hardly spoke of his past except to my mom of whoom i got alot of my info. keepingin mind my age and non interest to what was happening. first of the family's was told (my 3 older brother and i) that dad was an orphan and he ran away fro what orphanage, and to where was never established nor was the fact that he might have bee adopted and if his real name was even james garnet. there were whispers among us that he may have been a home child and taken in by a garnet family. possible sea captain as a cabin boy. he knew sailing ships and rigging from stem to stern, keal to mainmast. also he knew the whole seacoast from n.y. to halifax, n.s. not just bangor me. to answer the religion question, he never practiced nor spoke of a religious connection. in spelling the mane garnet, he would correct everyone. and corrected documents with two t's back to one t. gaston williams & wigmore has offices in london, montreal, n.y. and calif. the office in london was 1A waterloo terrace, islington and my dad was a boarder at 23 canonbury rd., islington as a lodger. just a few blocks from gaston williams. incase i neglected to mention,my dad was employed by gaston williams as a motor engineer which indicates good education.
there seems to be no way to connect james garnet to any family person or place prior to 1917 as to any proof that he was a resident in maine, canada, or england. thanks again, dick
