Pishey thompson again. Later in the 16th century c1590 the Fairfax family held estates near Swineshead, having apparently purchased them from a family named Holland. Not got my head round this yet, so it might be the same family, but there seems to be no connection to the Tupholmes other than the fact they were all gentry and in the same geographic area.

Thanks for that :-)

So if I take just the Tupholmes' from the clipping, I think I'm just left wondering if Gregori Tupholme is John's son?

John Tupholme (mayor of Boston 1547)
John’s sister - Jenett Stutt and her daughters Jennet and Margaret
John’s sister – Agnes Coocke and her daughter Eliz
John’s sister – Margaret Fisher
?? Gregori Tupholme and his son Thomas
John’s sister – Margaret Forman
John’s sister – Higdon
John’s son – William Tupholme and wife Frances, their son Nicholas
John’s wife Agnes and her sister Batte, brother John Bradley

Yesterday 4 hours on train gave me chance to analyse both the slip from the Northern Genealogist, and to complete (in rough form) the transcription of the will (Parts 5&6)
For the tree I get: Generation 1) John Tupholme, William, Jennett(Janet?), Agnes,  Margaret, Gregori, Batte
To deal with the rest of the family, Janet married ??? Stutt, and had 2 daughters Janet and Margaret, Agnes married ??? Coocke, and one daughter Elizabeth, Margaret married ??? Fisher, no children recorded, Grtegori married ??? and had Thomas , Margaret who married ??? Foreman, and Higdon; Batte had no recorded issue.
Now to deal with the main part: Agnes ??? married 1) ??? Fayerfax (fairfax) whose brother was Mayesh; she had George, Humphrey, Thomas and Richard with him, and then after remarriage had William with John Tupholme, William married Frances and their son was Nicholas. So were there 2 Nicholas' i.e. a son and grandson of John, named after Nicholas (1)'s brother?
Regarding the executors: I suggest Bro.John Bradley (a monk or other cleric) and Thomas Palfreyman, unrelated to the family.

To answer your questions separately: 1) Gregori is the brother of John; 2) Thomas is son of Gregori 3) Geo, Humph, Thos, and Richard Fairfaxare the sons of Agnes with her first husband, and are therefore the half brothers of William Tupholme.4) So far as these documents show Agnes is the only known wife of John. The will shows William Tupholme to be John's brother.
The Boston registers run from  1557 to 1834, so it is well worth searching them for the BMDs of many of these people. I will post the will transcriptions separately.

Thankyou so much for all your help, it has been a great help  :)

I will study your replies and will let you see the completed document when it's finished.

I had tried the BMD website but didn't find any of the names I was wanting and thought maybe I needed to see some registrys prior to 1547 when John was a mayor - I guess my next stage is to find a CD or fiche that will cover these dates?

Thanks again

I think Lincolnshire FHS is the place for that. but as I said in my earlier posting the registers only start in 1557. Regarding Boston registers I would keep clear of the IGI too many Americans posting submitted records as they want to believe their ancestors went out from Boston with the Pilgrim Fathers in 1620; so Lincs FHS or alternatively get someone to do a look up in Lincolnshire Archives.By the way I missed Nicholas, son of John Tupholme and presumably Agnes from the tree. Didn't cross check, too many people on the train. Adding him now.

Hi Redroger

I tried to send the Will transcription I'd done in a word document but the file size was too large so I've managed to save it in a .pdf file.

If you spot any errors please let me know.

Thanks again for all your help.

ps. you had mentioned Nicholas in your previous posting as son of William & Frances's.

We have a possible contradiction or omission here. Nicholas is shown as the son of William in the Northern geneaologist, and as the son of John in the will. Hence the possible problem. Thanks for the will, will download and read it.

After a brief reading,Richard Brigge has several mentions in Thompson's book, also I am sure the other name is Fendyke, a name which though not common has been a Boston surname for many centuries, and was still present in the town 30 years ago, and may be still. In view of the nature of the area this name is highly appropriate, and I would think is either locatative or occupational in origin. I will post any further comments here when I've digested it.
