Edward EVANS/LordsHill Baptist Chapel, Snailbeach
« on: Tuesday 14 September 10 13:47 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out about Edward EVANS who was the minister at LordsHill Baptist Chapel above Snailbeach from 1833 for over 30 years.

I understand that there is a plaque for him on the wall inside the chapel. Does anyone know of the location of his burial - the short obituary I found said that he was buried in the chapel.

Also, does anyone know if a picture of Edward exists?
I have a photo at home labelled Edward Evans & want to see if it the same person.

Many thanks,
Jeremy

Hi

I am a great grandson of Edward Evans. I have his bible which has been passed down & a nice colour-wash picture of him which is a little faded. When I visited the chapel about 25 years ago, his church organ was still intact as were some of the original pews & pulpit. I couldn't get access at my last visit, due to a service. I don't know if he is buried in the chapel, but I will ask my mother, his grandaughter, who is now 95.

I am the great granddaughter of Edward Evans. My grandmother was Clara Evans. I have a copy of the wording off the plaque in the church.

philjo--- I have a copy of Shropshire Family History Society`s records of burials at Lordshill.
There is the plaque in the chaapel which has been mentioned and a burial but I `m sure from the dates etc it is not your Edward Evans:- Edward Evans of Crows nest Dingle died 20th March 1875 aged 81.
It is right in front of the hedge at the front of the graveyard where the gate is, to the right as you look at the chapel.                                                                                                                          There was also Joseph Evans organist of the church who died 2 March 1881  aged 83 alsoZillah his wife died 8 April 1882 aged84.                                                                                                       There is  Mary wife of  an Edward Evans died 13 july 1864 aged 67
Martha daughter of Edward and Mary Evans died 25 May 1838 aged10 months. Also  their daughter
Ann 16 Dec 1837 aged 19 years. These two are to the left of the path as you face the chapel, an old section.,
I don`t know if they were related to your Edward Evans.
Thought this may be   of some help  .Viktoria.

Mantlepiece,
This is the picture we have which is labelled Edward Evans, Evangelist.  Pleae can you let me know if the picture you have is of the same person.
I think Edward moved to Northwich for a while after leaving Snailbeach in about 1864 but can't find any details of him until the report of his funeral at Snailbeach.

Many thanks,
Jeremy
