Kelly of Magherafelt
« on: Tuesday 14 September 10 13:13 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any information on the family of Mary Ann Kelly (born abt 1863)? She was born in Magherafelt and married James Edward Porter (born abt 1863) of Wainfleet, Lincolnshire. They had a son named Lawrence Porter.

Thanks in advance.

Civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864 and it looks as though Mary Ann Kelly was probably born before that date so you'd need to start searching for church records (if they exist). Do you know when and where she and James married? (father's name and occupation should be on marriage certificate if in Ireland or England).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks for the info. Having never researched this Irish side of my family, it seems particularly difficult to do so from a far. Although I don't have the details of marriage, it seems highly likely that they married in Hull, East Yorkshire. At least there is a potential lead there!

Thanks again.

There was a Mary Ann Keilly baptised in Bellaghy RC church on July 10, 1862, daughter of James Keilly and Sarah Agnew.  Note that the surname could be spelled Kielly, Kelley, and Kelly depending on who was holding the pen.
