1881 Census
« on: Wednesday 06 April 05 13:38 BST (UK) »
Maybe I can't see the wood for the trees, but I have a marriage certificate for my g,g grandmother dated August 15th 1881. On this she, Mary Ann Berry aged 17 has an address of 15 Gaskill Place. Her father is down as Edward Berry on the certificate.
I can't find any trace of either of them in the census.
Can anyone help please?

Nessie,

Where did she live, where did the wedding take place and did her father have an occupation? did she have one ? Who did she marry?
Anything that will give us a clue, it should be on her marriage licence.

Kind Regards
JeannieR

Is the area you are looking at Hunslet? If it is in 1881 at 15 Gaskill Place the family of Frederick Fairfoot was living there.

Funny thing here! Does the marriage cert say if the father was deceased?
In 1871 the family Fairfoot, I just said from 1881 ,  there is a Mary Ann Berry 6 years, daughter in law

Hi

And here is a marriage that proves that Mary ann Berry is Martha's child from her possible previous marriage hence the  daughter in law part for her.

Don't know what is happening as I have written two responses to the help I have been given and they haven't appeared for some reason ???

I will see if this one has better luck and then post my responses again.

I see that one did post, much of what I had previously written has been answered by your good slves.
So may I thank you for all your help?
I was beginning to think that the addresses on the certificate were wrong as I have a feeling that George Charlton was down as living with his father Parker Charlton in the 1881 census and I am pretty sure it was not Bedford Row as on the marriage certificate.
You are such a knowledgable group of people and I would have still been floundering without your help.
