Sons of Philip McLaughlin (Ireland/England) emigrated to SA after his death
« on: Sunday 12 September 10 17:22 BST (UK) »
This is a long shot!

I am desperately trying to trace the sons of Philip McLaughlin (my grand uncle).  Philip McLaughlin was born in Donegal in the between 1917 and 1921 to Michael McLaughlin and Mary Duffy (townland of Letter, Clonmany).  He began training for the priesthood but left and emigrated to England where he met and married a woman from Dublin (name unknown).  I believe they lived in Wolverhampton.  They had two sons (again names unknown!)

Philip was killed in a traffic accident - believe he was knocked down when alighting a bus.  Some time after this his widow remarried and both sons took the name of the new husband (their step father) and they all emigrated to South Africa.

If this story is familiar to you or you can help in ANY way.  Please contact me:

Many thanks,

Jennifer

Just found out Philip's birth details on Roots Ireland thanks to another poster's tip on another part of this forum.

DETAILS:  PHILIP McLAUGHLIN BORN 17TH OCT 1919 - LETTER, CLONMANY
SON OF MICHAEL McLAUGHLIN, FARMER AND MARY DUFFY

Possible marriage to Kathleen M Mitchell (O'Rourke) in 1950 - this is yet to be confirmed.

Philip died in 1955 in SOUTHAMPTON not Wolverhampton as thought previously.

Hope someone can help me....

Am delighted to have made so much progress and thanks again to all that have helped me so far.  Am now on the trail again of their two sons....born perhaps just before the marriage in 1950.  My Dad reckons that they are the same ages as him and his brother (they were born in 1944 and 1946).
