My Christian McGlashan was born in 1754,and then married Donald Ferguson in 1775.so she would of been to young to have a first marriage.
However if you give me a couple of days to get back to you, Im sure somewhere in all my archives I have another Christian McGlashan that Ive can remember seeing somewhere.

OK, thanks - I'd really appreciate that.  She's my 5 x great grandmother.  I've just had to rethink this part of my tree as I originally thought my 5 x g-grandparents were Duncan Blair and... Elizabeth Ferguson but some professional research has revealed that this probably isn't the case!

Hi,

I'm just new to this list after 'googling' McGlashan Strachur' to see what came up.

My Christian McGlashan (3xgr) was b. abt 1775 and married John Ferguson on 30 May 1797 in Clachan Strachur. I have 6 children to them, Margaret (1797), Catherine (1799) , Isabella ( my 2xgr 1802)Archibald (1807), Janet (1810), Christian (1813).
I have no parents for either John Ferguson or Christian McGlashan.
The 1841 census has John and Christian with daughter Christian in Clachan.
The 1851 census has John, Christian and niece Christine (age5 !) again in Clachan. The writing is very faint.
I have no other info on the family other than my 2xgr grandmother Isabella. Have just started back on this line after some absence doing other lines.
Is your Christian related?, or your Donald Ferguson to my John?

Hello ging63

I got here a while ago googling exactly the same thing.  I'm afraid the short answer to your question is - I don't know if there's any connection.  Her birth date is too late to be my Christian, but you would think there'd be a connection somewhere.

The only information I'm sure about is that Christian married Duncan Blair 26 Feb 1767 in Stralachan.  Son Peter (1775) and daughter Catherine (1799).  I did find other baptisms showing father Duncan but no mother and the dates would fit in with Peter and Catherine.  But I don't know if these are right.

The only births I've found for Christian, based on an assumed birth date taken from marriage of around 1747 +/- don't seem to fit, either because of either the date or the place of baptism.  So I'm afraid I'm stuck as well!

Sorry not to be of more help.

Thanks anyway :)

I see you have Blairs in Renfrewshire, did they venture into Beith? (it's on the border with Renfrewshire)
I don't have them myself, but distant family who married into them.

Said Peter above ended up in Greenock and the family seemed to more or less stay there, apart from my 2 x g-grandfather who was a Coastguard and ended up in Wales and then Devon.  I haven't yet come across anyone living in Beith  but you never know!

Hello Ging63

I think I may be able to help you with your 2xgt.grandmother Isabella Ferguson, born in Clachan - father John, mother Christian McGlashan. She is my 2xgt.grandmother too.  She married John Wilson in Cardross, Dunbartonshire on 20th May, 1832 and died in Dumbarton on 9th March, 1882.  She and John had several children including my great-grandfather Peter, who married Hannah McLean in 1867 in Cardross and died, still in Cardross in 1942.  Please let me know if you think we are on the same track.
