UPDATE

I was the original poster of this message. After all this time, I finally applied, and received the paperwork to view the files.

As you can imagine, a lot of the information is distressing and sad. However, I did find two important pieces of information.
1 - Next of kin details: I found a 'missing' relative had - not as I had suspected, gone back to Ireland - but had instead gone to New Zealand!

2 - A land deed transfer..of which the location is pertinent to another line of enquiry I am following.

It still doesn't answer a lot of questions about my relative: but it does open new doors to me that may.

That's great news that you were able to get some more info. I take it you applied through NSW Health?? If so, this is very encouraging since the details you gave earlier indicated your ancestors death fell within the normal 110 year ruling on privacy. Good luck

Yes applied through NSW Health. All their links on the website are broken by the way! Best to ring the telephone number on the website. They are quite helpful, they must get a lot of enquiries. ;)

You can email a stat dec. I sent photocopies of proof of my ID, and my family link to them. (I had all the death certs anyway). I had a family friend in Sydney who acted as a proxy for me, & who went out to Western Sydney to photocopy the archive for me, when it was all approved.
