Hello Everyone,

I'm absolutely floored, not only have you broken down my brick wall I now know what happened to Caroline.  Caroline Spencer Allgood was the daughter of Martha Ann Spencer (daughter of my G G Grandfather by his first wife) and Thomas Mathew Allgood.

I came across Ebenezer Hoeck via the Wills and Administrations publication when I found the details for my g.aunt, Caroline Spencer she was the daughter of Martha's half brother Richard Spencer (my g.grandfather).

It was the odd thing about her Will that prompted me to want to know more, Caroline Spencer died in 1915 and her father Richard probated the Will the same year then in 1923 it says that Caroline Spencer wife of Ebenezer Thomson Hoeck probated her Will.  I'd never heard of a Will being probated twice and still don't quite understand how that could be but I'm very grateful for all the information and so pleased to have found Caroline.

Thanks once again.

Jill

In case it interests anyone, I've just acquired two rather nice watercolours by Ebenezer Thomson Hoeck.

They're of Siena in Italy, dated 1894 and clearly painted on location. Perhaps on his and Caroline's honeymoon? I attach a small detail of one of them.

He seems to have lived in Bruges for a while too, so maybe that's where they were in 1901. I'd guess that the 1st World War perhaps drove them back to Scotland?

Mark.

Hi Mark,

Brilliant, thanks very much for that.  I've been quite puzzled about where Ebezener and Caroline had got to and it's great to see some of his work.

I did try to copy and paste the picture to put in a book that I am writing for my twin nephews about their family, but it didn't quite work. Never mind at least the information is fascinating.

Regards
Jill
