No I didn't know they had a free trial. I was able to get this information from Genline a month or so ago and need to get back to follow-up. I forgot about the site you mentioned but it is now bookmarked and I registered for the newsletter.

You may have found them by now. This Olof has the same birth date as your Olof 28 Oct 1838.

1880:
Magnusson, Olof b.1838 - Father
Andersdotter, Anna Sofia b.1843 - Mother
Karl Julius b. 18 Dec 1864 in Nor
Sofia Charlotta b.1866
Matilda b.1871
Johan Fredrik b.1874
Hanna Maria b.1876


Karl went to USA Nov 1884
Sofia went to USA May 1882


The mother died in 1881 and the rest of the family also moved to USA in May 1886.

Ian,

Thank you for following up. I was able to find some of the information you provided already.

I did not know that the rest of the family emigrated along with Olaf. I will have to do some digging on that front to find out where they ended up. I know Olaf and Karl began their life in America in Worcester MA (which is where I currently live). I would guess that the others also lived in the area.

I also have down that Johan Frederick died 30 Mar 1884 at age 10. I wonder if that in addition to Anna's death in 1881 (which I knew occurred before 1900 but not an exact year) spurred them to leave Sweden?

Anna Sofia Andersdotter died 20 March 1881 and buried 27 March. No cause of death recorded.
