I take it you mean  that you have two possible baptisms.

The most pessimistic answer is that you may never be able to make an informed decision - I have a couple like that lurking around my tree!

You can scout around both of them for a couple of generations - see if common family names occur.  If you're lucky you could find a mother's or grandmother's maiden name cropping up as a middle name.
Perhaps one of the William's died young, etc. etc.

Doesn't the marriage record note the father's occupation ?  (I know this is pre-1837, but some church records did).

A good way is to see if you can use any siblings and put the family groups together.  You may then find them in the 1841 census and be able to link the correct families together using both the information from the census and the parish records. Its like putting a jigsaw together you have to try the pieces in lots of different positions till they fit. It takes time and gets more complicated when you get past the census records.

Look at the burial records - perhaps one of them died as an infant or child.

The marriage record will be one of those 3-to-a-page things which doesn't even mention parents - I really hate those!

One thing's for certain, jayjay, you can't just pick one you like the sound of - not if you're serious about your family tree.  For all you know at this stage there might be a third or fourth option you've not found yet  ;)

It is like a jigsaw, as Panda says, and the fun is in finding the right fit - and it's a buzz when you do.
