BURGH LE MARSH LINCOLN LOOK UP PLEASE
« on: Wednesday 06 April 05 08:32 BST (UK) »
 :-*

I would be so grateful if someone could help with this problem.

I have a William Castledine Wyles marrying a Catherine Allford in 1831 London - shown as cabinet maker.

In 1841 he is living with Catherine and daughter Mary Ann in Southwark shown as upholsterer "not of this county", aged rounded to 35 years old.

I have found a marriage between a Ben Wyles (or Wiles) and Mary Castledine in Woolsthorpe, Lincs in 1799 which seem possible parents.

I have found a baptism of a William son of Ben Wiles (sic) and "Mary" on the IGI 7.10.1802 in Burgh le March (sic).

I had thought this was a likely match but another researcher of this family has called into question that MY William Castledine Wyles is the son of Ben Wyles and Mary Castledine.

Can anyone please help prove or disprove this?  PLEASE. :-\

I should add that he cannot be found on the 1851 or any later census.  There is a possible death in 1858 and he is not shown as deceased at his daughter's marriage in 1853.

I hope that you're not making a link based simply on the fact that both the marriage and the baptism occurred in Lincs.

The two places are about 35 miles apart - about the same distance as from Woolsthorpe to Derby (for instance).  Would a combination of those two places (were such a link to exist) be as attractive?

I guess you need to look at registers in the hope of finding the marriage and subsequent baptisms have the same occupation for the father (other than AgLab!).

The problem of migration (of any distance more than a few miles) is, unfortunately, what kills off most of our research when we get back to the time for relying on parish registers.
Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

:-\  Geoff I would be just as happy if he turned up in Derby or Timbuktoo come to that and had parents with the names Wyles and Castledine!

The marriage of Ben Wyles to a Mary Castledine and the fact that my GGFx3 is William Castledine Wyles is the info that has led me to these people.

As William must have served an apprenticeship to be a cabinet maker/upholsterer I had hoped to find apprentice records somewhere but no luck.  It would be a dream if I could find that old Ben was also in the furniture trade rather than an ag lab.!!

;DJust to update.  SKS kindly looked up Ben and Mary Wiles (Wyles) on the 1841 for Northamptonshire.  Ben was born Kings Cliffe, Northants and Mary Grantham, which was Lincs.

Yipee, Ben is shown as a carpenter (as I had dearly hoped), he has a 30 year old son living with him, ALSO a carpenter and a younger son who is an apprentice carpenter.

I feel fairly confident that this must be my guys father now.  Just have to find him in London 1851 to get his place of birth to tie it all up!
