Public & Pauper Burial/Gravestone Information
« Reply #307 on: Sunday 11 September 11 18:41 BST (UK) »
                        :) ;) :D ;D :) ;) :D ;D :) ;) :D ;D :) ;) :D ;D :) ;) :D ;D :) ;) :D ;D

If when searching for an Ancestor who was buried at the General Cemetery, don't be off put if you find they have a Public or Pauper Grave, the number which appears does tend to be a long one.

If the Plot Number appears as 18720518, this is actually the date of burial in reverse  18/05/1872.

So, this also means there is also a chance of a gravestone as not all public/pauper graves were at the back of the Cemetery.

The MGCTP have found many!!

If the number appears as Unknown 8234 , there is a good chance there is a Gravestone, as we have Gravestones and when we search on the burials website it comes up as Unknown 8234.

So, always enquire by PM or via the Project Website!

:D Wow, a full year gone by already, mixed feeling about that, I'm now a year older  :-\  maybe if I work twice as hard I won't have this feeling in six months ha ha.

It has been a great experience, the weather is no problem when your having fun & some good laughs with the rest of the gang. At times not everything goes to plan but, hey what the heck, its good to laugh seeing some members running around when they think hover flies are wasps hee hee. Wait till we do the other side near the wall, that should be fun, some big Spiders over there ha ha. :o   ::)

Thanks for the fun & laughs to the gang when doing something worth while.

'Have Your Say Magazine'
« Reply #309 on: Friday 16 September 11 09:53 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

Earlier this year we contacted 'Have Your Say' Magazine after being given the email address about a local magazine that is published.

This morning, I received a telephone call from the Editor of the magazine informing us that we are to have a notice in regarding our Project & Groundwork days, after speaking to her she has said she finds it really interesting and has said she'd like to do a feature instead.

Great News for the Project!!

We continue on!!

Oh good, they did not reply so I thought they were not interested  .I think the M.E.N. had not shown great interest previously had they.
Anyway I`m very pleased for all of you who have done all the hard work.
It is really news-worthy  and will inform even more people that they can now find rellies graves.
Well done again.
                             Viktoria.

Hi Viktoria,

Yes they did reply originally, but they were in the process of getting funding, and said they would contact us, when they got it!

I'm really pleased too that they Remembered us and thought our project worthwhile!

M.E.N. did respond, and as they were busy they were supposed to contact us, thanks for the reminder,    :-[ I'll get on the phone tomorrow to them.  Sometimes I forget things, have lots to do!!

As they weather is now starting to change we need to get as many Sundays in before we have the Winter Break.  Although it was October last year when the first Meeting at the Cemetery happened.

We are having great success at helping those contacting us for the location and pic of their family grave.  We have another two to do this Sunday.

Good news about "Have Your Say" magazine and thanks for the contact Viktoria.  Looking forward to seeing the feature.

I am sure the MEN will want to do something too once Cancan gives them a reminder  :D.

I have just done a project update for WDYTYA? Magazine, Family Tree Magazine and The Manchester Genealogist.

Have a good day tomorrow  :D.
