Hi

 :D

There is a small write up about the project on the "News" page of Your Family History magazine Jan 2011.  If anyone would like a copy of the page, please PM your email address.  Unfortunately they have printed the website address wrongly as when I first emailed them we had the first website up.  I followed it up with an update but unfortunately they either didn't receive it or it hasn't been tied up with the original email.  I am sure none of us have given up with our research because a website address didn't work and if anyone was serious about contacting us we can be easily found via "Google", nevertheless I have emailed again to let them know it is the wrong website address.

Who Do You Think You Are? magazine are keen to feature the project on a page called "Your Projects" but they are waiting until we can get some "work in progress" photographs because of the style of the article.

I haven't heard anything recently from Family Tree Magazine but they did seem interested.  I don't receive a copy of this until a few months after publication as a friend in UK let's me have his copies when he has read them  :D.    The next time he will bring some out is in May so if anyone reads this magazine regularly please let us know if anything appears.

Hi All,

No definite date can be given for the next 'Meet Up' yet, until the weather gets a little better.

3hrs of standing in cold damp conditions in a Cemetery I think would have us all leaving a lot earlier.  Plus again there is the issue of safety with the wet leaves and holes etc in the ground.

We also need good daylight for the visible written transcriptions.

I will be dropping off some leaflets to Harpurhey Library, week after next, so I will pop into cemetery to see how things are??

I have to admit I've missed the visits and look forward to it again!!  As do others who have contacted me!! :D

When weather improves, I will start posting the dates for visits.  Hopefully with the better weather etc., we could try for every Sunday or every fornightly Sunday.  As long as I think a minimum of four is there I think we should be all OK.

Thanks Cancan :)

p.s. goldy - did you manage to get chance of visit for snow photo's?

I wonder if the magazine "Have Your Say" would publish something about the transcription project?

It is all about the Collyhurst, Ancoats ,Miles Platting areas of Manchester, all areas which would use Manchester General Cemetery before and after the opening of Philips Park.
The website for opinions and reminiscences is :-downourstreet.org.uk.
Address:-Unit, 73.
                Cariocca Business Park.
                 Miles Platting
                 Manchester . M40  8BB
Perhaps there will be a few more volunteers although most readers are of an age with me---- ie old!
Just a thought. Viktoria.

Re: Manchester General Cem Transcription Project 'New Groundwork Dates 2011'
« Reply #195 on: Friday 04 February 11 21:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi All!!!!

Welcome to the 2011 'Groundwork Dates'

WEATHER PERMITTING!!!

Dates in mind are  Sunday 13th February        9.30/10am - 1.30pm
                         Sunday 20th February        9.30/10am - 1.30pm
                         Sunday 27th February        9.30/10am - 1.30pm

Equipment needed  - Hoe, or a trowel or a spade. (or ALL!) Stiff brush definitely needed!!
I found a long handle on any equipment saves the back!!!

Good pair of boots!! & Camera

Hopefully we can get a minimum of four to turn up (on each date) and then that day will be definite, the more days we can do the better!!

I myself can do all these at the moment!!!  Just add below your preferred day or all the dates you can do!!!

Thanks Cancan & Luzzu
                 :)           :)

WE will add dates soon for March!!
