I would ask the Council about lottery funding, the form filling for that stuff is toe-curling and I would imagine Mr DL and his team are experts in the field.

but its a good idea!

Hi,

Spatts:

Have taken a look at the website about Lottery Grants, haven't quite got the jist of all of it all, but we are not a registered organization and this seems to be what is needed to apply for a grant.

But I will look into it further? and mention it to Dominic?

This though,  I feel would need to be done by someone other than myself, as my own interest is now to only Map/Photograph and Transcribe the cemetery.

Barbara:

Brilliant!!  I will contact Dominic, I cannot see a problem, but just to be on the safe side!!

I think you have to have Charitable status to apply for lottery funding, as far as I recall from a project here where I live. There was a lot of work involved and as I became ill in the middle of the application I am not at all up to date with the procedure.
It looks as if the weather may dictate whether the work can go on this side of Christmas.I personally can`t get there Sunday Dec 5th, my sister and I have our Christmas get together then, the rest of the time we are tied up with our families, grandchildren etc.
Anyway well done to everyone. Viktoria.

It is by no means a narrow point to state that it is the photographer alone that holds or is the owner of the copyright in all cases.

However, we have made agreements with the Council, in return for their assistance, as it were. We are effectively donating our gravestone images to the Council in return for their help in getting them into a publicly accessible format than is free of charge (and as far as I'm concerned, free of copyright).  As I have said in my response  to your PM, you can see how Cancan's discussions with them went in reply 33, 49, 51 and probably others on this thread.

Barbara has hit the nail on the head as far as I am concerned. I thought when joining the project that I gave up my rights to (any) photos I had taken because they were for the Project & Manchester Library. When you volunteer for something, you expect nothing back what so ever, all the people that have posted with, Well Done, thank you & a Pat on the back is sufficient for me, it puts a smile on my face ;D & I appreciate what people have said, thank you.

I'm not sure I have any ancestors buried at Manchester General Cemetary but, if I can have a look at the info when the project is finished, I'll be happy with that.

I know there is a web site concerning this project which I have looked at breifly & there are magazines concerning ancestry who have shown a interest but, I am only interested in finishing the Manchester General Cemetary Project. Maybe when we have finished this project, volunteers can be ask for another cemetary project, of which I may be interested but, until this one is done & dusted, there are no distractions for me, its in a box & labeled, needing attention until complete.

So that leaves me to say thank you to CanCan for asking me to be a part of the (Manchester General Cemetary Project) & organising it from scratch, Mr D.L for getting the go ahead & to (all) my fellow volunteers who have given up their time & the hard work they have put in, cheers, as I drink my coffee  :)

So see you on the 5th Dec nice people,

regards Spatts.

The photographer & photographs are irrelevant they are to help the transcribers only.

I believe William is correct.

Copyright remains with the grave owner.

Paragraph 3

http://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/329/funeral-burials/1102/cemetery_byelaws_and_regulations/4

I cannot see stated anywhere that copyright remains with the grave owner?

As far as I can see the byelaw simply states that a permit is required in certain circumstances, which would I presume will attract a fee.

Humm...think you might be incorrect in your assumptions in a legal sense?
