« on: Thursday 09 September 10 13:01 BST (UK) »
Hiya folks...

I have been looking for old photos of Barbridge (Stoke) near Nantwich... I have looked on here but only found Francis Frith... I have checked the Crewe and Nantwich Librarys and there is nothing not even a book about the place..

Also Im looking for School photos of Calveley School in Tarporley Cheshire,

and also Acton, Primary School on Chester Road near Nantwich..

Sounds abit sad but I'll do anything to get them!!

Sorry - by "school photos" do you mean pictures of the building or pictures of the pupils? If the former:

Acton Primary School has its own webpage:
http://clc2.uniservity.com/Grouphomepage.asp?GroupId=512341
If you follow the link from the map on there you can use Google's StreetView for pictures. Bing will probably also give bird's eye view.

Calveley also has a webpage:
http://www.calveleyschool.co.uk/
Same applies for Google/Bing from there.

If you're looking for pupils it may be worth contacting the schools - they may have albums that could be copied.

Hello bertha23,

I think your best chance for finding information and pictures of these is to get the local history books published privately, most of which are written by Frank Latham. They are all in white covers and though have been out of print for some time, can be found in most Cheshire libraries, Nantwich included. They keep them in Chester library and also in the Cheshire RO.

They covered many Cheshire villages in separate volumes, there is one on Acton and another on Tarporley. I am not sure about Calveley. Barbridge might be in one of them but that could pose the most difficulty in the information you seek. I have an idea there is one on Stoke. There is certainly one on Alpraham.

In addition, there are Township Information Packs, these have been written on most of the villages in Cheshire too. I have an idea there is one on Barbridge. They are in a different format to the books and not as comprehensive. They keep them in the Cheshire RO, in Nantwich library for areas local to there (Acton and Calveley etc) and in Chester library too.

Jo

Hello bertha23,

These all used to be kept in the Local History room at the rear part of the reference library upstairs in Nantwich library. I confess I haven't been in there for over 2 years.

The best place to try would be the RO in Chester. They keep all the Township Packs and sell them too.

Barbridge may be covered in one of the other local history books such as the ones on Alpraham, or Calveley. There isn't really enough there to support a volume on Barbridge alone.
