Webb of Davetry

I am trying to track down the parents of William Webb born c1779 in Daventry.
He married a Rose Bowstead in Luton.
Any help would be gratefully received.

I shall be in the library tomorrow morning and can have a look at the PR fiches for Daventry.

Can you confirm your source for William's year of birth (I'm assuming that it's probably from a census?).

Yes his date of birth is from the census' anything you can find would be of a great help. He was Wesleyan if that is of any help!

Sorry, but nothing in the Daventry baptisms for William WEBB (1777-1781 inc.), or any other WEBBs - but not surprising if he was Wesleyan!

All the Wesleyan records for Daventry that I've found seem to start at 1801, so not sure where you would find any earlier ones (possibly worth putting up another thread with this query?).

Thanks for your efforts. It is a real pain. On his grandchildren's christening records they give Rose's parents but not his.
Maybe one day I'll find what I'm looking for LOL!

Welcometo Rootschat. 

As the Wesleyans used to go to a Church in their circuit, it
maybe helpful if someone could find the one for Daventry.

They may have travelled quite some distance so maybe looking
at the other County that are close to Northamptonshire border
also.

He certainly isn't on the Northants Baptisms Indexes for the County.

The Methodists did not form a separate denomination from the Church of England until after John Wesley's death in 1795 and the fragmentation into the various branches of methodism did not occur until even later.

It is thus extremely likely then any baptism would have been in an Anglican church.

I ignored it at first as we were asked for Daventry, but seeing Flore
is just down the road or up depending on which way you go it could
be a possibility.

As you now say it was more than likely C of E it is worth noting.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions. Perhaps I have been stuck on the Daventry thing. It was the only clue I had....from the census. It is diffiicult when your Australian and have no idea where any of the places are or how far apart they are. After marrying Rose Bowstead in 1803 in Luton he stayed and worked there till he died.
