Hi,

The baptisms took place at St Thomas a Becket Church, Box so I would have thought this is the most likely church for the marriage.

Does any one know if the parish registers are available on CD?

Hiya

According to the parish transcripts at the RO for Box Parish Church there is only one marriage listing for a DICKS or similar male - Issac to Emma Sargent in 1831.

Perhaps Susannah was from another parish and they married there? Any other specific parishes that you know about?

Hi Vazzycat  :D,

Thanks for your reply.

As there don't seem to be any matching marriages in Box, it does seem likely that Susannah was from another parish as you suggested and I understand that if the bride and groom were from different parishes it was usual to marry in the bride's.  I have no clue though where she might have come from.

The first child, Isaac, was buried in Box but doesn't seem to have been born there so he could have been born in the parish where they married.

Try the Wiltshire OPC website.  www.wiltshire-opc.org.uk and see if anyone has had a chance to do any PRs fro local parishes.

I'm the OPC for Chippenham, Castle Combe, Hardenhuish, Draycot Cerne, Langley Burrell, Kington Langley, Kington St. Michael, Christian malford, Sutton Benger, Nettleton, North Wraxall & soon to be Lacock.  You can check out my transcriptions on the Wilts OPC site by going to the parish pages or by following the link from there to my supplementary pages.  It might be that they were married in Chippenham etc or more likely, Corsham with its proximity to Box.

Worth trying everywhere local I would have thought.  Going in the other direction, you are getting near to Colerne parish and also may have to consider Bath and the surrounding Bath parishes like Bathford etc.  The WSHC (Wilts county record office In Chippenham) does have some transcriptions of Bath without parishes and other parishes around the borders of Wiltshire from Berks and Somerset and Hants and Glos.

I'm sorry this is so vague but anything's Worth a try when you're stuck!

Happy hunting.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I will take a look.  Thank you particularly for suggesting which parishes would be worth trying.  It is especially difficult searching when you are in an unfamiliar area of the country.

Well done on being involved with a transcription project.  I am involved in a couple of Manchester/Lancashire based transcription projects and as well as giving something back I find I learn so much.  I use Lancs OPC a lot and its really good as most of my research is North West based.

Thanks again,

Is anything known about Rev. George Miller (or Millard), who would have been vicar between roughly 1710 and 1730?

Davies (Aberystwyth/Monmouth/NSW) - Mendus (Pembrokeshire/London) - Miller (Glos./Bristol/Victoria) - Shakespeare (Glos.) - Call (Devon/Bristol) - Steward (Norfolk U.K./Queensland) - Baillie (Midlothian); Rae (Kincardine/Dundee/Glasgow/Queensland) - Redgard (Derbyshire/Queensland) - Montford (Shropshire/London/Australia) - Norval (Scotland/Queensland)

Hi Luzzu,
I recently found your post about a marriage look up for Isaac Dicks and Susannah. I don't have any info about that, but I am a descendant of Isaac Dicks, born 1789. Do you have any direct connection to this Dicks family?

Sorry only just seen your post. I am a direct descendent of William Dicks [1786-1851] who is the brother of your ancestor, Isaac Dicks [1789-1836]. Please feel free to message if I can help with anything.  :)
