KILROY / LUNDY in Sligo pre 1850
« on: Tuesday 07 September 10 12:20 BST (UK) »
I am seeking any information about KILROY and LUNDY ancestors from Co. Sligo.

John KILROY b.c. 1815 in Co. Sligo and his wife Mary ? b.c. 1815 in Tubbercurry.   I would guess, from children's ages, that they married circa 1837.
They came to Blackburn, England with their 3 children - Michael b. 1838 Co. Sligo, Bridget b. 1844 in Ireland, and Mary b. 1848 in Ireland - before 1851.

Michael married Bridget LUNDY in Blackburn in 1859.  Bridget was also born in Co. Sligo in 1838, daughter of Patrick LUNDY (b.c. 1816 Co. Sligo) and Catherine ? (b.c 1816 in Ireland).  Patrick and Catherine  left Ireland between 1843 and 1850 together with 3 children born in Co. Sligo - Bridget (b. 1838), Mary (b. 1842) and Nancy (b. 1843).  Patrick's father was John LUNDY probably also from Co. Sligo who did not leave Ireland.

I would love to hear from anyone who has information about these or other Kilroys or Lundys in Sligo or indeed any pointers about places to look for information in Sligo.   I will be visiting Sligo and staying for a couple of days at Tubbercurry in the immediate future.

Thanks,

Kerry

for early details you will need to check parish records. Do you know what religion the family were ?

Civil parish for Tobbercurry is Achonry, and the RC parish is is Curry. Unfortunately records for this particular parish only go back to the 1860s. See : Curry RC Parish, Sligo  (Irish Times Family History)

I guess that I'll be sightseeing rather than researching then!
Thanks for the link to the Irish Times site, it looks like it may be a useful resource.

While I was at Tubbercurry I visited the cemetery at Rhue and photographed a number of Walsh, Lundy and Kilroy headstones. By no means all, it's a huge cemetery.  Beautifully maintained.
