The others have all said it really, but would just like to repeat Hiraeths very sound advice.

Make sure all your census images, BMD references, attached photos and docs are saved to your pc as they don't come with the GEDCOM... dates do but the link-destinations don't.
If you have a large tree and all your census info is only saved to Ancestry trees then it will take ages to go back and recover.... Ancestry appear to forget to tell you that bit up front for a very good reason.
Known many to have come a cropper to this one and its enough to put you off family history if you have to do it all over again... well almost ;)
Please acknowledge when a restorer works on your photos, it can take hours for them to work their magic

Please scan at 300dpi minimum to help save the restorers eyesight.

Thanks for the sound advice received - I will certainly take care to save my census info etc as suggested.
I will probably tackle the project over the weekend and let everyone know if I,ve had any success!
Fingers crossed  :)

If you don't renew your subscription you will then become a free member and still be able to access your tree but as other people have said not any census images you have saved.

If you intend to renew at some stage you can leave your tree on there, no need to delete it.

If you leave your tree on Ancestry, is it still possible to maintain or change the privacy settings?
