Help finding birth of Maria Blower c 1889?
« on: Monday 06 September 10 17:03 BST (UK) »
Hi there

Helping a friend with her family tree (all very exciting, have uncovered one wedding where bride was 7 months pregnant in 1913! Oops!).

The information I have so far

Maria Blower m John H Tierney in Qtr Mar 1913 Chorlton 8c/1351. They had Rose in Feb 1913 (!).

in 1911 census Maria Blower is a bag factory Machinist, living with her sister Janet & husband. Born c 1889 in Manchester, Lancs.

on 1901 census Maria is living with her parents Maria (40 c. 1861) and Robert Blower (42, c. 1859)in Hulme

Ada who was 18 in 1901
Janet 17
William 14
Maria 12
maggie 7

Janet was born in Chorlton, Maria's place of birth (and Janet's) is on 1911 census as Manchester, Lancs.

Maria was married in Chorlton. Maria had all her kids in Chorlton.

It is therefore likely she was born in the area too... I just can't find her!

Any bright ideas?

Thanks!

Hi SpitzMum.

There is a Maria Blower - birth registered Jan/Mar quarter of 1890, Chesterfield Reg, Dist. Vol. 7b Page 727 refers.

She is the only one of that name. There is an Ada Maria Blower birth reg. in 1893 in Staffordshire, and a Mary Catherine reg. in Liverpool, and Mary Gertrude, West Derby (Lancs) district.

The Maria Blower mentioned above could fit in with your 1889 birth year, given the period of grace allowed to register a birth.

If it wasnt for the fact that Janets birth is in the indexes under Blower, I would suggest that it is possible that the older children maybe were from a previous marriage and under a different surname - I cant see the family together on 1891 at all which made me think along these lines too.
But Finbar may have got it in a different area.

Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

A tricky one! I can't see anything very likely.

The Chesterfield birth seems to match with a death in the same quarter, and in any event Chesterfield isn't an obvious fit geographically.

Will keep looking (NB I can't easily find the Blower family in 1891 - have you had any luck with them then?).

I looked at that too - but the parents (assuming they are Robert BLOWER and Maria MITCHELL) seem to have married in Chorlton in 1882.

Hi,

I just found the Maria Bloor (too!) and I cannot see a Maria Bloor in the census (or a death for a Maria bloor).

The BLOOR one is an interesting find - there's a possible birth registration for big sister Ada as Ada BLOOR, Sep qtr 1882 Chorlton.

thanks all.

A mis-spelling of Bloor would explain a lot.

I really don't think that the Chesterfield birth is at all likely - I am led to believe that the family had been in the Manchester area for many generations - all cousins and parents I can find are all in the same area too!

I'll advise her to get the marriage certificate as it'll have more info on that.

thanks again, all. :)
