Clerkenwell pre 1837 HELP
« on: Monday 06 September 10 11:51 BST (UK) »
I have found Joseph R Hay's birth Thanks to help it was Dec 1819 and ch in 1820 Feb to John & Sarah Hay at Spa Fields Lady Huntingdons Clerkenwell.
Also a daughter Elizabeth Hay in 1817

They had another son Henry Joseph Rawlings Hay born 21 Sept 1815 ch St John Baptist Clerkenwell 10th March 1816 Vineyard Walk.

Can anyone help on this family as a marriage for this couple is beyond my capabilities. I found a death for a  Sarah in 1840 so finding John on the 1841 census is again hard.

I would be very gratful if anyone could help point the way please.
Regards

There are a couple of other possible baptisms at St Mary le Strand - father's occupation = compositor, same as printer?!

Bapt 21 Feb 1813 Benjamin, s of John and Sarah, Phoenix St, Somerstown. b 8 Feb 1811

Bapt 21 Feb 1813 Sarah Catherine d of John and Sarah address as above. b 4 Oct 1812

and another possible marriage (sorry!)

Christ Church Newgate 20 Sep 1808
John Hay b otp, to Sarah Cooper s otp by banns. Both signed their names.
Witnesses = Henry Hay and Jno Burnley (Mr Burnley signed several records so may not be relevant to your search)

Thank you I will keep on persevering with John Hay and wife Sarah surname as yet unknown  ???

Its going to be hard to establish their ages until more is known about date and place of marriage.

Nice to know people are so willing to help.

hi

I would be interested in where you are with this family. I have been struggling from the other direction and trying to confirm parents of an "Elizabeth Hay" in my family and recently found that spa fields entry. Also interesting about the earlier children listing an Somer Town Address (not far from spa fields)

I Have the following info to add to the soup  :) in regards to what I have for MY Elizabeth Hay.

1) She is listed on census as being born in Somer Town (1851) , St Mary le Strand (1861) approx 1819, but i have various ages as ever.
2) importantly, I have a Poor Law Examination record on 20/2/1858 which has a short biography which is difficult to read. What I can see though is that she states
: Parents are John and Sarah
: Both dead by 1858, mother dies first
: Also mentions her older brother, no name
3) She deserted her family in 1862 resulting in 3 of her children spending their lives in the strand workhouse.

I am keen for any help in confirming she is your elizabeth. :)

cheers
Dave.

Thank you moderator.

Sorry to pollute this thread, but I cannot send a PM to you until I have posted 3 posts. Is there a more detailed summary of copyright issues on the site. I see I should have used the census copyright notice.  Is there a general notice one covering personal transcriptions of items from record offices, like registers.

cheers
