David Painter
« on: Saturday 04 September 10 22:00 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace the whereabouts of David Painter born in Auchtermuchty, Scotland in 1890.  He married Elsie Gall Yule in 1923.  I have come across a photograph on ancestry.co.uk taken of the North Public School in Auchtermuchty featuring a David Painter which states that he was a Master Grocer in Durban, S.A.  I presume that this may be the same David Painter that I am trying to trace and that he emigrated to South Africa.  The photograph was taken from the Fife News Almanac in 1931.  Does anyone have any ideas how I could find out if this is the same David Painter.  I am sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place.

Any help  would be appreciated

Regards  Terri

Hi Terri,

I see your query is from some time back, maybe you're still looking for some research ideas though.

To get answers to your question you might want to order a digital copy of the death notice and other peritinant documents from the following estate file, detailed in the NAAIRS database :

NAB MSCE  REFERENCE 3893/1966
DESCRIPTION          PAINTER, DAVID. BORN IN SCOTLAND. PRSP PAINTER, GLADYS JANE.                     DECEASED ESTATE NO. 147/1948. DECEASED ESTATE.                       STARTING  19660000                                                              ENDING    19670000

It is a Natal file, so would tie in with your Durban references.

It is easy and pretty cheap to order the digital copies through the eggsa.org website.  I know tha the Natal archives are busy renovating so you might need to wait for the copies though.

cheers,
Leanne
