Thank you for that little bit extra, Sandy.
The Woodford near Thrapston seems too far away to me. Woodford Halse seems much more likely, especially as I think there is a cluster of Highams just down the road at Byfield.
Many thanks

Hi Salvia this may be a red herring but the LDS site records the birth of an Alice Checkly 16 Sep 1764 in Kilsby Northants. parents Joseph and Ann. Kilsby is very near Daventry and not far from Woodford Halse.
I had a look at the Mollington and Cropredy records (near Claydon) as I was doing my own family research and there are lots of Checkleys being born there around the right time but no Alice unfortunately.
hope this might just give you another avenue to pursue
all the best

Hi Coz
Fascinated by your posts.
It seems you have hit the Higham/Checkley brickwall I met about 15 years ago!
From your profile it looks like you are coming down the Alice/Elijah line: mine is Charles and Ann.
John and Alice are my maternal GGGG g`parents - maybe yours as well.
Why can`t these pesky ancestors leave traceable footprints?

Hi PCAM,
Great to hear from you! And welcome to RootsChat.
John and Alice are my GGGG grandparents too! I was just doing some research on last night on Charles Higham and Ann Meads (hope I'm right with the maiden name there).
Do take a look at this photo and see if either of them are familiar.

Dear Salvia (6th? cousin)
Sorry the photo doesn`t ring any bells or compare with anything I have got (therefore probably Thomas line). Lovely clear image but no Higham characteristics here I`m afraid.
There are some lovely images of Silson Mill on the web(grade 2 listed) - now a B&B??? When I saw it some years ago it was semi-derelict and in a sorry state - but what a family history landmark!
Did you pick up that Charles (1770?) and Charles (1826) were the returning/supervising officers for the whole census returns for Silson in 1891? What a hive of activity the mill must have been that night!!! Pxx

Thank you for the correction - I was beginning to get worried I was on the wrong track.
I'll send you a PM now.
