I am searching for any Christening records for James Jenkins born I think in Godshill on the Isle of Wight .Possibly around 1813-14.I am trying to find what his parents names and occupations were as well.

Do you have him on any census at all?  Was his wife Fanny or Frances?

The only one I can find at the moment was baptised in Wootton 31 July 1814 to James & Kezia Jenkins.  James was a farmer and can be found at Duke's Farm in Northwood on the island in 1851.

Brilliant, :) the  James Jenkins I found a couple of weeks ago is buried at Northwood Cemetery along with his wife Frances Jenkins nee Dunford.
So James and Kezia would be his parents, as I believe their son James was baptised at Wooton.
So he bacame a farmer .Where would I find any record of this farm.I live in Kent so I have to do most of my research via the net.James and Frances were my late husbands Gt Gt Granddad & Gt,Gt,Grandmother The Jenkins family seemed to have stayed in the Northwood area as there are about 18-20 of them buried at Northwood.
Thanks so much for the info.

Father James was the farmer, son James does not seem to have inherited the farm

Census info for you:

1841 HO107/407/6 4 p3  Duke's Farm, parish of Northwood

James Jenkins 50 Yeoman born in county
Kezia 75 not born in county
William Jenkins 20 Ag Lab born in county

separate household, but same reference.

James Jenkins 25 Ag lab born in county
Frances Jenkins 25 born in county
John Jenkins 4 born in county
James Jenkins 2 born in county

1851: HO107/1662/15 p2 Duke's Farm Northwood

James Jenkins Head 64 Farmer of 70 acres employing 3 labourers b Newport
Kezia wife 80 b Everley Wiltshire
James Jenkins 36 marr Farmer's son b Wootton

James Jenkins 11 grd son general servant b Northwood
Mary A Jenkins 8 grand daughter scholar b Northwood
Clara Jenkins grand daughter 5 scholar b Northwood

By 1861 James junior is a woodman, living at Tinkers Lane Northwood.

RG9/652/21 p3

John son 24 shipwright b Northwood
James son 22 Apprentice shipwright b Northwood

William son 8 scholar b Northwood

Kezia seems to have died aged 104 in 1870, but I've no idea where she and James were in 1861.  James died in 1862 aged 78, leaving a will (HRO catalogue indicates that he was now a gardener).  James junior the woodman died in 1870.

Link to show the location of Duke's Farm:

If you put Rew Street into Google Maps and use streetview you can see what the area looks like now.

IOW record office may be able to assist with other information.

That does worry me a bit - she would have been truly remarkable to still be having children in 1814 at the age of 48 or so!

I wonder if she'd forgotten her age?

Hi its only me again I spent a bit of time sorting out some of the Jenkins tree and looking at the census info on 1841 it gives jame as 50 and his wife as 75
then 10 years later in 1851 James is 64 and his wife is 80.
I have sent off for Kezia's death certificate, and also James' one Hopefully it will say where they were when they died. neither of them were buried at Northwood cemetary I wonder if they went back to where she was apparently born in Everley in Wiltshire I will let you know when I get the certs. I had a bit of info about the Jenkins family from a distant relation who said that she understood  they at one time lived at Deborne Lodge on the Cowes/Gurnard road. its facinating how this is all building up a bit at a time .I was very lucky doing my side of the family as they more or less stayed put for about 8 generations in a small village in north east Scotland
