it really depends on what you want!

National Archive has census, but they're online now. Has lots of other stuff - RIC details, Education stuff.

National Library has Parish Registers, newspapers, etc etc

Thank you very much.
I have looked at census etc., its the Parish Registers I really need so its the National Library for me.
If I went to the General Registry Office in Dublin would I be able to do searches myself ? I have ancesters that were born in the late 1800s that I cannot find on Family Search but I don't want to buy photocopy Certs that are not the right ones
Thanks again

Ronnie

The BMD Index available online on familysearch contain the same details as the index books available in the GRO. You would still have to buy the certs to see the full details.

Note the Catholic parish registers are available in the National Library, but you would need to know what parish to check as there are numerous RC parishes in Dublin city and county. See an index to the list of microfilms at : www.nli.ie/en/parish-register.aspx

Hi

I have a good idea of the parishes I want to search so the National Library seems the best bet.

Thank you for your help
