Edward GOLDSMITH Death
« on: Thursday 02 September 10 16:37 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
I hope this is the right place to ask for help with my great x 3 grandfather Edward Goldsmith born1762cc in Ramsgate, Kent, i have been searching for the last two years for his death date and still cant find it, can anyone help please.   He married a Sarah Wood 3 April 1783 she was born 30 October 1763 and whose death i also cant find.
They had 14 children, 1st child Edward born in 1784 and the last  Ann in 1804 all in Ramsgate, Kent.  So Edward & Sarah must have still been alive at least up to 1804.
Can anyone help me knock this brick wall down.
With thanks
Sheila.

Hi Sheila

There are a few burials in St Lawrence, Thanet (Ramsgate)/Ramsgate on the Record Search Pilot at http://www.familysearch.org which might fit ............... 1805 1805 1814 1838 .............. I guess you need a peek at the originals for any further information which might help to identify which, if any, could be him.

The original parish registers which might give more information ie. ages post 1813+.  They may well have copies on film or fiche at Ramsgate and/or Margate libraries http://kent.gov.uk/LibrariespublicUI/ otherwise they are at Canterbury Cathedral Archives.

Hi Casaguilda

Have been to relook at Parish Burial records for Edward Goldsmith, the only one close was 30th July 1805 St. Lawrence, which said he died suddenly, and his last child was born in 1804 so a possibility,  but this would make his birth 1752 not 1762.  I have looked at the births for 1752 and have come across one for a Edward Goldsmith bap 11th June 1752 at St. Johns in Margate, which is close to Ramsgate, so this could have been him.
I have his marriage date of 3rd April 1783 to Sarah Wood but there is no age, so cant double check his age with that.
If i contacted the church of St. Lawrence do you think they would have more details about his marriage and what age he was when he married to try and find out his birth year.

Back to the drawing board.

Sheila.

Hi, Edward was also my relative, his son Charles Goldsmith m Maria Freeman, and three of their children came to Australia, Maria Ann, Caroline Frances, Charles James. Maria Ann Goldsmith had 7 children to Jabez Janes . Do you have any info on the family? Or can I share any with you. :)

Hi,  Your Charles Goldsmith who married Maria Freeman is the brother to my great x 2 grandfather Richard Goldsmith 1802 - 1867, so that is my link and their father was Edward Goldsmith born cc1762  My great x 3 grandfather) who i still cant find his death or burial date.

As you probably realise the Goldsmith family is very large, so i have not yet had a lot of time to reseach your Charles (my 2nd great uncle)  but i have seen some information about the family, and have as yet not had time to research it properly.

Maria Ann as you say went to Australia and married Jabez Janes, and they had 7 children, i cannot possibly put all my information i have on the goldsmiths on this message, so if you would like to  send a pm with your e mail address i can send you some attachments.

I go on holiday on Sunday for a week so will not be around next week.

Best Wishes

Sheila.
