1841 look up req Kesterton, Lingfield
« on: Tuesday 05 April 05 12:35 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Help needed please. I am trying to find out more about my 2nd great grandmother, Mary Kesterton, who married Edward Skinner. I believe they lived in Lingfield where my great grandfather, also Edward, was born in Feb 1844.

If some kind soul could check the 1841 census for Lingfield for  Mary kesterton or Mary Skinner or Edward Skinner, I would be most grateful.

Thanks

Dennis

Hello Dennis,

I don't have the 1841 for Lingfield, but I do have your family in the 1851 if you need it.

1841:

Cavewell (?)

Richard Skinner, 60, Ag Lab, born in county
James Skinner, 30, Ag Lab, born in county
Mary Skinner, 30, born in county
Ann Skinner, 13, born in county
William Skinner, 12, born in county
Mary Skinner, 9, born in county

or

Baldwins Hill

Thomas Skinner, 30, J Bricklayer, born in the county
Mary Skinner, 25, not born in the county
George Skinner, 8, born in the county
Joseph Skinner, 6, not born in the county
William Skinner, 3, not born in the county
James Skinner, 1, born in the county

Couldn't find a single Kesterton but the Lingfield scans are absolutely terrible quality and I couldn't read a lot.  Lots of Skinners though.

Hello Dennis,

And here is the 1851, again in Plaistow Street and all born in Lingfield.

Edward, head, married, 45, Bricklayer Journeyman
Mary, wife, married, 44, Bricklayers wife
James, son, 16, Bricklayer apprentice
John, son, 9
Edward, son, 6, Scholar
Walter, son, 2
Ellen, daughter, 2

I don't know, but your Edward senior may be related to my George Skinner, born Lingfield about 1800, but living in East Grinstead in 1851.

Regards,
Phil

Hi,

I just saw your question about Edward Skinner & Mary Kesterton (it's about 7 yrs old now, I know!)

Anyway, they are my great great great grandparents, and their son: Edward Skinner, born 1844 is my great great grandfather. His son: Charles William Skinner (b. 1866) is my great Grandfather.

In fact, I have a photograph, taken in 1891 that has Edward Skinner (b 1844) in it, along with Charles, his son William (my grandfather) and his son Harold (my uncle) in it, IE: 4 generations. I can send you a digital copy if you give your email address (don't seem to be able to add one here). I am * Any info you have about Edward Skinner and Mary Kesterton, and their lineage would be much appreciated.

Hello Clive,

It seems we share the same great great great grandparents and great great grandfather (Edward b1844), His son Edward James( born 1868) is my Great Grandfather. I would very much like to have a digital copy of the 1891 photograph and will send you a pm with my email address. I will also dig out what I've got on Edward and Mary.
