Thrift Watt and Agnes Dorian family
« on: Thursday 02 September 10 04:02 BST (UK) »
Hi,

My GG Grandfather was Thrift Watt and GG Grandmother was Agnes Dorian.

My Grandmother Agnes Watt was the oldest daughter of Briget Watt who married Munroe Gove.

Agnes came to Canada in 1919 with her husband John Kear Robertson.

I'm looking for anyone who may have information on the Watt or Dorian line.

Thanks in advance.

Rob1616 :)

Hi

The IGI has them marrying in Fetteresso, Kincardineshire on 6th June 1868.

Scotlands People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk (pay site) would have their marriage details, including their parents' names and occupations.

The following children are shown for them on the IGI:

18 April 1870 Bridget
24 May 1871 Alexander
27 Dec 1873 John

and there are patron submissions for:

1876 Ann
1877 Agnes
1878 George
1879 Elspet
1880 Elizabeth

All Fetteressso

The later ones would need checking against the official records at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

An alternative check is the 1881 census:

King Street, Stonehaven, Dunnottar parish, Kincardine
GROS Ref - 255 ED 2 P 24

Watt
Thrift, 51, saddler, b. Portsoy, Banffshire
Agnes, 40, b. Ireland
Bridget, 10
Alexr, 9
John, 7
Ann, 5
Agnes, 4
Elspet, 2
Elizabeth, 7 months, b. Dunnottar (parish)
George, grandson,  3

All children except Elizabeth b. Fetteresso

The presence of a grandchild suggests that there were other children so ....

1871

59 Allardice Street, Stonehaven Fetteresso parish
GROS Ref - 258 ED 1 P 15
Watt
Thrift, 40, sadler, b. Portsoy
Agnes, 30, b. Ireland
Robert, 15,cooper,  b. Aberdeen
Isabella, 10, b. Stonehaven
George, 6, b -do-
Bridget, 11 months, b -do-

It looks as if Agnes might have been Thrift's second wife.

I'll do some more checking.

I think that this is Thrift's baptism:

14 August 1829, Fordyce, Banffshire

Parents - George Watt and Margaret Chessit (other sources have it as Chisholm)

I don't see anything for Agnes's birth in Ireland - either IGI or the Family Search pilot.

There is a patron submission saying that she died in 1903, Stonehaven.

Bridget Dorian, other (maiden) surname Campbell, died Fetteresso in 1869, aged 52

The full certificate should give details of her parents - Scotland's People, as before.

Dorian
Thomas, 38, labourer ?, b. Ireland
Thomas, 2, b. Fetteresso
Mary, 11, b. Ireland
