I rechecked the 1881 census.Michael was a journeyman tailor. The son Edward was born in Londonderry c1871, daughter Annie was born in Glasgow c1874. Looks like this is the correct James. Perhaps his career was still in it's infancy & he did work at the ship yard?

There should be information to be gleaned off the poorhouse archives?

Hi All

Might be good Hackstaple if you could confirm James Constance Curran's father's name from the 1886 marriage you have in Marylebone (I can only see the marriage banns). The marriage does show on Freebmd in 1st Qrt 1886 in Marylebone. Worries me birth year you quote of c. 1854 with what has been found so far...or did you mean 1864 which fits better?

There is one IGI birth showing in Donegal with the parents' names you found Sancti on that 1900 death:

RODGER CURREN  Birth: 04 JUN 1864, Moville, Donegal, Ireland
Parents: MICHAEL CURREN and ELIZABETH O'DONNELL

Likely James' birth was before this date and the start of all statutory registrations in Ireland (to include RC events).

The 1890 marriage that Falkryn found for a James Curran and Mary McShane would also let you confirm his marital status at the time of the marriage to confirm he showed as a widower.

Monica

Hi

Are you sure they really went to Scotland?  Maybe they stayed in Marylebone.  See my note to Paul.
Pity about Football Crazy because I used to sing along to that as a kid.

Happy hunting, cousin of a cousin

Thank you all. I have passed all of this on to my cousin Paul.

But keep it coming if any new data turns up.

I have found the Damary family in the 1871 & 1881 censuses. In both instances the address is; 8 Hardington Place,London. In 1881 - Head of the house is Alfred 44, a grainer, his wife Mary 38, children - Frederick 18,Albert E. 15,Charles 14, William 10, ANNIE E.16, Maud M.1. Also there is a niece,Charlotte Smallman 21, & a lodger, William Plummer 21.
Hope this helps,

Thanks flst. I have several hundred Damary documents I suppose - under all sorts of spellings.

It is is only this particular Damary, Annie E, who interests me. Although a couple of years back the origins of Mary were a mystery and also the niece Charlotte but persistence paid off and those were resolved.
