Lookup John MASON and Catherine MURPHY

...Could anybody provide me with any information on John Mason or Catherine Murphy's families?

The two married in 1841 at St Marys in Sydney. John Mason was born about 1814 and Catherine 1822 but I don't know where (Australia or UK), were they a convict family or just ordinary emigrants? They were Roman catholic and left Sydney for Adelaide and had children: Mgt b.1845, Rose b. 1847, Susanne b. 1849, Eliza b.1850, Jane b.1852, Bridget b. 1854 among others.

Any information on these two families would be brilliant.

the index to Bounty Immigrants does give a couple of real possibilities.

Did the couple have a child or two in NSW before they left cause there are a couple of possiblities on the NSW BMD and perhaps a couple of these birth certificates might give you further information

Do you have the couples death details at all?

By  the way I cannot find any birth registrations for children to this couple in SA

Thanks for these. The couple did indeed have children before leaving NSW. I can't find the couples death. Do you think that the birth certs and marriage cert may have more information? If so, do you know how I could get them?

You should get some information from  the  births in NSW more so than the births in SA






you can order the certificate online from the NSW online bDM's for around $27 and have it posted to you can take a few weeks depending on their workload

or you can use a transcription agent

Hi Jenn,

Somebody has helped me find the reference for the certificate. Also, somebody sent me a transcription of the parish register. Would the certificate be the same as the parish register entry, or have different details. The parish entry does not give parents details or their places of birth.

On Dec 22nd 1844 a Mr & Mrs Mason with 2 children left Sydney on the Brig Dorset bound for Adelaide.

The right name but probably too early considering the children birth dates.
