Crimean war medal lookup please
« on: Tuesday 31 August 10 14:09 BST (UK) »
Hi Lime

I'm asking you a big favour here if you wouldn't mind. I'm  looking for any Hodges who served in the Crimean War and were awarded medals. Also I believe that my husbands Gt  Grandfather Ernest A WOODS may have fought in the campaign as well. I don't know if this helps, but I do know that he served in the Boer War in the East Surrey Volunteers.

That's a big request Anne.  :o
The medal roll isn't easy to read at the best of times, and is arranged by unit first, then other criteria, rather than alphabetically. To check the entire roll for Hodges would take days!
Do you have any other information to go on?
The casualty roll is certainly more accessible. Are you looking for someone who survived the war?
May be a good place to start.

Hmm, seems most unlikely for someone to have served in the Crimea and the Boer War.
Lets say for sake of argument a person was age 18 when the Crimean War started (a pretty green recruit). He would then be age 63 when the Boer War broke out! It's pushing credibility a bit far.
Again, what else do you have on Ernest Woods?

Name interests: Boulton, Murrell, Lock, Croxton, Skinner, Blewett, Tonkin, Trathen.

Hi Neil

Many thanks for your interesting reply, sorry didn't realize the full scale of the Crimean medal look up.  I would be grateful if a search could be made on a  William C (colin) Hodges who if, served survived the war  . I dont have anymore information apart from that William C Hodges was born in 1826 Bethnal Green.
