I'm asking you a big favour here if you wouldn't mind. I'm looking for any Hodges who served in the Crimean War and were awarded medals.
That's a big request Anne.

The medal roll isn't easy to read at the best of times, and is arranged by unit first, then other criteria, rather than alphabetically. To check the entire roll for Hodges would take days!
Do you have any other information to go on?
The casualty roll is certainly more accessible. Are you looking for someone who survived the war?
May be a good place to start.
Also I believe that my husbands Gt Grandfather Ernest A WOODS may have fought in the campaign as well. I don't know if this helps, but I do know that he served in the Boer War in the East Surrey Volunteers.
Hmm, seems most unlikely for someone to have served in the Crimea and the Boer War.
Lets say for sake of argument a person was age 18 when the Crimean War started (a pretty green recruit). He would then be age 63 when the Boer War broke out! It's pushing credibility a bit far.
Again, what else do you have on Ernest Woods?
