A Poor Jane French who is possibly mentioned above appears many times before the courts sadly and meets a sad end (or may be coincidence)

Thanks for that a Jane Elizabeth Parker married in 1887 James Michael French, so it may well be the same lady?

Here it is:

Intention to Marry Notice. Archives NZ Ref: BDM 20/18 1873 Shortland p.195/448
Notice dated 9 December: Thomas CHAPPLE, bachelor, a miner aged 20 years living at Waiotahi, length of residence 6 years, intends to marry Sarah PARKER, spinster, a servant aged 21 years living at Waiotahi, length of residence 1 year, at the dwelling house occupied by Rev. LUSH, Mary Street, Shortland. Name and Relation of Person giving Consent in the case of a Minor: Jane French, the mother. Minister: Rev. LUSH.

Note that the name of the mother was difficult to interpret.
