Hi Venezia,
I have looked out for Kilcommon graveyard many times but can't seem to find it.  ??? Before I know where I am, I have reached either Glenealy or Rathdrum without locating the graveyard  ::) Will continue to look out for it so thank you for your reply.

Hi LH,
Thank you for that! I have seen the information Re: Abner Atkinson in the Petty Session Records and will have a good look at the other info to see if any of it is relevant to my Rathdrum Atkinsons.

Hi Jack,
Thank you so much for that information! I had looked around the graveyard in Rathdrum but was unable to see any headstones for my Atkinsons. I have Baptism Records for my ggg grandfather David William b. 1831 and his brother William b. 1825. Abner must have had another son David before my ggg grandfather was born and I wonder if this is William b. 1825. Are the Cantwell Memorials taken from Church Registers and where can I look for these?
As for Robert Atkinson, his name hasn't come up in my search yet but will keep that info just in case.

Many thanks to you all
Wicklow way :)

....

Cantwell compiled his documents based on visible headstones.

I almost sure I worked out directions for Kilcommon graveyard for someone before - I'll have a look for these, and let you know ..

Yes, they came from Cantwell, and he gives Kilcommon COI as in Tinahely Wicklow.

The town of Tinahely is the base for the Church of Ireland parish of Kilcommon, and the graveyard is on the outskirts of the town and to the south east. It's located in the townland of Churchland, just south of the R747.

Hi Shane and Jack,

Thank you both for for all that information. I had been directed to the Glenealy and not the Tinahely road to look for Kilcommon Graveyard so it is no surprise I couldn't find it!

HI,
Kilcommon graveyard up a lane, half way between Rathdrum & Glenealy. Not marked, Think the lane is on the right hand side when coming from Rathdrum. Just before a sharp bend.

There was a workhouse in Rathdrum, and now built beside the site is St Colmans Hospital. The graveyard for the work house is up a lane past the community school. People were buried in mass graves and unmarked. I don't think there is records but could be wrong.

COI graveyard in rathdrum is around St Saviours church. on the main street.
Other possible places for COI is Ballinatone Grave yard & Church on the rd between Greenane & Ballinaclash behind a high hedge. the COI church in Glenealy have a grave yard around it. There is a COI church in laragh but no grave yard.

Rathdown is near greystones not rathdrum. Rathdrum in the Griffith Valuation 1846 done prior to the famine is known as the UNION OF RATHDRUM, Parish of Knockrath or Kilcommon depends on which one u are looking up.

I think there are two separate places named Kilcommon - one is a civil / Church of Ireland parish located in the barony of Ballinacor which contains the town of Tinahely, and the other Kilcommon parish (aka Kilcolman)  is in the barony of Newcastle and located 1˝ miles north east of Rathdrum.

Kilcommon 1  / Kilcommon 2   (Samuel Lewis, Topagraphical Directory of Ireland, 1837)
