Crewkerne 18th century marriage - LAWRENCE
« on: Friday 27 August 10 13:55 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm hoping someone may have access to the parish registers of Crewkerne around 1731-ish.
I've been onto the Crewkerne opc site but the registers from the 18th century haven't yet been transcribed.

I am looking for the marrige of John Lawrence and a Prudence around 1731(Not sure of Prudence's surname but i'm guessing it is also Lawrence).
They had their first child(William) in Merriott in 1732.
I've had a look on the Merriott Families genealogy website but can't find a marriage between John Lawrence and a Prudence that fits so i'm starting to broaden my search.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance
SF

Hi SF,

Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a marriage of a John Lawrence to a Prudence c1731 at Crewkerne. I have checked up to Mar 1754, the only marriage I can see around that period is of a John Lawrence is to Mary Mangell 23 May 1723.

Any other locations to try?

JJ

Hi JJ,
Thanks so much for taking a look for me, it's much appreciated.

I'm not really sure which other locations to try.  I've traced my Lawrence family living in Merriott from around 1851 back to 1732 when John & Prudence had their first child called William. According to the Merriott families genealogy website there isn't any John and Prudence that got married around 1731 so i thought that maybe they were married in Crewkerne but you've proved otherwise so maybe they were married in another area close by to Merriott?
I've just had a look at google map and there's East Chinnok and West Chinnok, Haselbury Plucknett, Norton Sub Hamdon, Hinton St George, Lopen, Misterton, Odcombe.
I can't really see them being married further away or outside of Somerset

I've tried looking for their marriage on the IGI but no luck.

Hi,

I've checked Hinton St George and Lopen  - they don't appear to have been married there.

Sorry, but the other locations are not covered by the info I have  ???

Good luck with the hunting.  :)

JJ
