Help Nowlans
« on: Thursday 26 August 10 14:38 BST (UK) »
Hi  i have been lurking here for ages getting loads of help but i have come to a block with these families

Rath
Rynhart
Murphy
Nowlan

and was wondering if anyone can give me a bit of help or let me know if this the end of the line  :'(

Nowlan
Michael Nowlan is my G-G-Grandfather.  I have a photo of his gravestone.  he died in 1924 and was 95 at the time, so he was born in and around 1833.  He married a lady called Anne who died  in 1921, was 76 so she was born around 1845.

On the cenus, it states they were both born in Wexford and they were married for 38 years, so were married around 1873 - i am trying to find out what Anne's maiden name is.

I cant find a marriage record for them - now this is the big problem, they were living in Abbeydown, Clonegal, County Wexford but the otherside the Murphys were also living in Clonegal, County Wicklow and i have found some of the Murphy Children baptismal records as Clonegal County Carlow.

Michael and Anne had one Son Patrick who married Mary Anne Murphy.  I know this marriage was arranged and was all about the land.

I'm also seeking help with the Nowlan(d)s. I'm looking for any information on Conly Nowland who I suspect was born in County Wexford but have no evidence of this, about 1780. He emigrated about 1797 to Delaware, United States, where he married Mary Shawan abt 1800. Very little is known about him particularly his life in Ireland. On his naturalization certificate he is indicated as being from Ireland, no county given. Any help or direction is greatly appreciated. Joe

Hi,

The Google map views for the Carlow and Wexford Clonegal are practically the same location but for the County border line.

Links below
Parish records available for Clonegal, Moyacomb Parish,Carlow
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0q56/
Griifiths Valuation For Land occupied or leased by a James Nowlan in 1852 in Clonegal ,Moyacomb Parish, Carlow.
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0q57/
The Griffiths valuation only returns Clonegal,Carlow in its results which would indicate alterations  following the 1898 Local Government (Ireland) Act may have altered the county boundary dividing Clonegal into the counties Wexford and Carlow.

Hope this may help.

Hi Maryanne. If you click on the name of the original poster 'Irishbird' you will see that they have not logged in to this website since mid June. I have just sent them a personal message which will arrive as an email to alert them to your posting.
If you do a two more posts yourself, then you will be able to click on the name and send a personal message yourself - which only the two of you can see. That way you can exchange contact details and information regarding people still living.
Hope this is of help to you. Katharine.

I should have also mentioned (since you are new to the site) that the little green notepage near your profile on the left side of your posting indicates that you are on the website at the current time. A white notepage indicates the person is offline.  :)
